Advanced Disc Review
Now theres a quick, easy way to search for programs you recorded in DVD-RAM, DVD-RW or DVD-R format with a DVD Recorder. You can choose to review the first 7 seconds of each recorded program or the first 7 seconds from each 10-minute interval.

Advanced Progressive Scan
All Panasonic DVD Players are equipped with a high-precision progressive video processor that handles 30-frame progressive scan images* on NTSC discs. DVD discs have video signal information up to 13.5MHz bandwidth. Many conventional players, however, are prone to degradation in the video signal near 13.5MHz in progressive output mode. Panasonic DVD players can fully transmit these signals. The delivery of these signals gives images profound depth and provides a level of definition that brings out even the finest details.

* To enjoy progressive scan picture, a TV with progressive scan capabilities must be used.

Advanced Surround (V.S.S.)
Even on systems with only two front speakers, the Advanced Surround function lets you enjoy surround sound from Dolby Digital software having two channels or more. This effect can also be used for a DVD-Video disc recorded with two channels or more using DTS or Linear PCM.
* Works with DVD-Video software recorded with two or more channels using Dolby Digital, DTS or Linear PCM.

Audio/JPEG Navigation Menu
On-screen confirmation of MP3 and WMA folders recorded on CD-Rs or CD-RWs lets you search tracks quickly. Plus, JPEG* data stored by category in separate folders is displayed in a menu that maintains the same folder structure, making it quick and easy to search for photos and music.
* DCF-based still photos shot with a digital camera or SD A/V recorder and recorded as JPEG files. Playability may vary depending on the contents, discs
and quality of the recording.

Audio Only Circuit
Protection against noise is provided by the Audio Only circuit that isolates the audio circuitry from the video circuitry. The result is exceptionally pure signal reproduction.

Built-in dts*2 Decoder
Offering incredible digital surround sound, dts is the sound system of choice for many theatres. By connecting the DVD player directly to an AV receiver with 5 or 6 discrete inputs, you can enjoy the amazing 5.1-channel digital surround sound offered by dts encoded discs.

CD Mode Key
The DVD-F87 features a CD Mode key for convenience when you have both CDs and DVDs loaded in the 5-disc changer. Press the CD Mode key, and the DVD-F87 will skip over the DVDs and play only the CDs. Also, the DVD-F87s fast reading during CD mode minimizes the time you need to wait for the player to change from one disc to the next.

Chapter Preview
Once you have resumed playing the DVD movie disc, the Chapter Preview feature automatically shows you the first few seconds of each previously viewed chapter, and then proceeds with normal play once it reaches the position you left off.

Component Video Out
Component video output terminals allow for the transmission of digital video to compatible video equipment. By keeping the Y/R-Y/B-Y format of the video image perfectly intact during the transmission process, the highest possible picture quality is maintained.

Dialogue Enhancer
When viewing a dts or Dolby Digital 5.1-channel movie disc, sometimes the dialogue encoded on the centre channel can be difficult to hear particularly when loud sounds from the other channels overwhelm the centre channel. The Dialogue Enhancer is perfect for such instances as it increases the centre channel volume relative to the other channels, making the dialogue more audible.

Digital Output for dts & Dolby Digital Surround Sound
Many of todays movies rely on a dts or Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack to bring all of the action to life. Thats why all Panasonic DVD players have outputs for optional dts and Dolby Digital surround sound receivers. They provide six discrete channels of exhilarating digital audio that deliver the ultimate sound experience.

Direct Navigator (DMR-ES10/DMR-E75/DMR-E85/DMR-E500)
Find desired programs fast. Just press the Direct Navigator button to display thumbnails of all the programs on a disc, then select the one you want and press ENTER. Its that easy.

DVD-Audio Quality Sound Technology
To make sure you hear the full ultra-high fidelity benefits of DVD-Audio, Panasonic packs a variety of original audio technologies into its DVD-Audio ready players, differentiated according to rank.
Linear PCM Audio: Up to 6 Discrete Channels
By using linear PCM for DVD-Audio, all channels deliver unsurpassed high sound quality in a multichannel system. So, you can experience the thrilling realism of concert halls and clubs without leaving your living room. Plus, over 74 minutes of the highest 6-channel sound quality (96kHz/24-bit/6ch) can fit on just one side of a single-layer DVD-Audio disc.
Plenty of Interactive Functions
DVD-Audio delivers not only breathtaking sound, it also provides still images, video clips, and text, which the user can interactively select from an on-screen menu (depending on software content).
192kHz/24-bit Audio D/A Converter
Panasonic Tabletop DVD-Video players employ a 192kHz/24-bit D/A converter. To allow for the high sampling rate and bit depth of DVD-Audio signals, this D/A converter delivers faithful reproduction of the complete range of formats from 2-channel 192kHz/24-bit to 6-channel 96kHz/24-bit. Like DVD-Audio/Video players, tabletop DVD-Video players also feature the 192kHz/24-bit audio D/A converter. Due to the converters exceptional precision, sound quality is superb during playback of DVD-Video discs and CDs.
HDCD Ready*
High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD) is an encoding / decoding technology that greatly enhances the sound quality of CDs. Conventional CDs are recorded using a 16-bit signal. HDCD encodes 20-bit information into 16-bit data, so you get superior 20-bit sound from HDCD compatible players or normal 16-bit sound from other players. In this way, HDCD lets you enjoy a richer sound and wider dynamic range.

* Compatibility varies depending on the model.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)

New Interface for Digital Signal Transmission
HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a new interface standard for digital transmission of video and audio signals. With HDMI, the signals are not compressed. Transmission is direct and "pure" free of the degradation and noise that occur with analog signal transmission. This new interface supports image resolution all the way up to 1080p.
HDMI is particularly well suited for images that will be viewed on plasma display panels, LCDs, and other equipment that uses all-digital image processing. In terms of sound, HDMI is ideal for DVD-Audio and other high-quality digital formats. It accurately transmits even the most delicate signal components contained in high-quality audio signals. The result is superb sound, whether the source is two-channel or multi-channel. HDMI is simple to use too, requiring connection of a single cable. With all of these advantages, HDMI is the ideal interface for todays age of steadily advancing digital A/V equipment and media.
Resolution Upconversion
When the DVD-S97 is connected to an HDMI-compatible monitor, DVD images can be upconverted to 720p or 1080i for output. The converted images have much higher resolution than the 480p images of conventional component output. You get beautiful, high-resolution theatre perfect images for todays large-screen HD flat panel displays.
Depth Enhancer
Enjoy sharp images with incredible depth with this advanced noise-reduction system. Conventional systems process the entire image, including parts that are already fine. This can actually degrade the quality of those parts. Panasonic depth enhancer technology processes only the background, where noise is often a problem, and doesnt touch the skin tones or delicate details of your main subjects. You get images with startling depth and true-to-life skin tones, as well as a soft, movie-like background focus.

MPEG Digital Noise Reduction
During Playback, advanced 3D-DNR circuitry effectively and selectively removes only noise components from the signal. In addition, to suppress the compression noise characteristic of the MPEG format, Block Noise Reduction reduces the square-shaped "block distortion" that can easily occur in scenes of rapid motion, while Mosquito Noise Reduction reduces the noise around sharp edges that can look something like small flying insects. The result is stunningly clear image reproduction.

Multi-Format Playback*
Select Panasonic DVD players can play DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, +R, +RW, VCD, SVCD, CD, CD-R/RW, HighMAT (Level 2), WMA, MP3, JPEG and HDCD. A single unit lets you enjoy everything from movies to audio.

* Playability may vary by condition of disc/recording.

HighMAT (High Performance Media Access Technology) *
Developed jointly by Microsoft and Panasonic, HighMAT technology lets your PC write digital data onto a recording medium that your A/V equipment can read. A HighMAT-compatible Panasonic DVD player can read HighMAT data written to a CD-R/CD-RWincluding photos and musicand display the contents in a menu. It can play music tracks according to a playlist you make. And, if you place the music, photos and other content onto HighMAT disc, it will categorize the data by file-type for easier selection.
* Windows Media, the Windows logo, HighMAT and the HighMAT logo are trademarks, or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation
in the United States and/or other countries.
JPEG/TIFF Playback
Display a list of JPEG/TIFF* digital still photos recorded onto a CD-R or CD-RW, or do a slide show.
* DCF-based still photos shot with a digital camera or SD A/V recorder and recorded as JPEG files. Playability may vary depending on the
contents, discs and quality of the recording.
This is a compression format developed by Microsoft Corporation. It achieves the same sound quality as MP3 with a file size that is smaller than that of MP3.

Multi Re-Master Processing
This interpolation technology, a Panasonic original, increases the data density in CD or DVD signals to reproduce even high-frequency sounds outside the audible range. It increases spatial characteristics to create a level of sound quality that approaches the DVD-Audio format. Multi re-master processing can also be used with compression formats such as MP3 and WMA to help compensate for signal loss. You get a full, rich sound thats difficult to distinguish from the uncompressed original, even when listening on a high-end sound system.

On-Screen Menu Icons
Whenever you use one of the Panasonic DVD Player models, youll appreciate the convenience of its redesigned user interface. The setup screen is easier to follow thanks to a new screen design and remote control cursor display. The cursor alone can be used to make all changes to the three menu bars for disc, player, and scanning information. Instead of having to use the setup screen to change bar position, you can move it around so it doesnt get in the way while viewing a playback picture.

Position Memory
By memorizing a desired location and enabling playback from that location, Position Memory lets you eject a disc part way through a movie and then resume viewing from the same point later. This handy function remembers the location where viewing was interrupted for up to five discs, which is a real convenience in a family with a wide range of tastes in entertainment.

Quick On-screen Display
Display the title number, chapter number, playback time, playback speed, file name and more, onto the TV screen for easy checking. You can have the information displayed in large text and numbers, so checking is much easier on the eyes than with the DVD players display.

Quick Replay
Simply press the Quick Replay button on the main unit or remote control during playback, and playback starts from a point 7 to 10 seconds before. This is convenient if you miss a scene, dont catch the dialogue, or want to watch a scene again.

SD Memory Card Playback Features (DMR-E500)
Enjoy easy playback of SD-Audio music data (AAC, MP3), still images (JPEG), and moving pictures (MPEG4). You can listen to music, watch a slide show, display moving or still images in thumbnail format, and enjoy many other SD playback functions.

Sleep Function
Dont worry if you fall asleep while watching a movie; this function automatically switches off power to save energy.

Slim, Elegant Design Complements Other Panasonic A/V Components
Inside and out and from every angle, Panasonic super-slim DVD players reflect the craftsmanship and advanced digital technology for which Panasonic is known. The black stripe running along the silver-toned body accentuates the units slim profile. It also matches the designs of other Panasonic DVD systems, DVD video recorders and VCRs, which is helpful when youre trying to achieve a harmonious look among the different components in your A/V system.

Twin Laser Pickup for DVD/CD Playback
All Panasonic DVD player models feature a newly developed Twin Laser Pickup. Using one objective lens with two laser units having different wavelengths optimized for DVD and CD reproduction, this advanced pickup can also play CD-R/RW discs. The integrated design of the Twin Laser Pickup DVD unit reduces noise pickup by using an OSIC (optical electric IC) with built-in I/V amp. This highly sensitive state-of-the-art optical pickup is made possible by Panasonics advanced optical device technology.

x200 High Speed Scan with Progress Indicator
x200 High-Speed Scan enables fast-forward/reverse at up to 200 times normal speed. This lets you scan a two-hour movie in about 40 seconds, offering a quick way to access desired scenes. Theres also the Progress Indicator Function, which displays a scale at the top of the screen for at-a-glance confirmation of your current playback location and remaining play time.

54MHz 10-bit D/A Converter
A D/A converter using 54MHz over sampling helps bring out the stunning, beautiful picture quality in the DVD player models equipped with progressive scanning capability. By processing the DVD video signal at 4 times the original 13.5MHz rate, this technology provides vivid and finely textured image reproduction. To provide a magnificent picture, the DVD image data receives 10-bit processing for faithful reproduction that extends to delicate signal details.
